Dear colleagues,
March 25th is an important date in the Surveyor Events calendar as it marks the annual Bridges conference and exhibition.
For over a generation this event has driven debate and been at the heart of the UK’s bridge community. This year, the conference programme focuses on a number of leading projects in the UK alongside a series of technical presentations looking at relevant and current issues facing all bridge managers and engineers.
Our keynote speaker, Michael Culmo, from the US, will talk through the detail behind the US Accelerated Bridge Construction Programme and how something similar could be applied to UK bridges and structures. There will also be a detailed update on the Queensferry Crossing - specifically the deck erection and steel fabrication work - as well as a look at the Nottingham Express Transit bridge programme, which is now in phase two.
The technical presentations include an update on how Eurocodes are being applied in the bridge industry as well as detailed presentations and discussions on asset management and BIM, the future ageing of metallic bridges, advanced composites and the challenge of climate change.
I am also pleased to announce that both conference streams have been accredited for CPD points through a new partnership with the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).
We have many other topical presentations on the UK programme and of course delegates are also welcome to attend presentations in the international-focussed stream if they want.
There will also be plenty of time during the day to network with colleagues and to visit the latest products, concepts and services in our exhibition, which features more than 45 specialist suppliers.
I look forward to seeing you in Manchester on March 25th and remember those booking before 4 March can secure an 'early bird' discount of some £80 off the price of a delegate pass.
