Bradford’s brimming over with ideas to tackle urban floods

New ways to combat urban flooding will be top of the agenda when water experts from across northern Europe gather in Bradford to share ideas this week.
The aim of the 20 April Bradford workshop is to explore what action is needed to break down barriers to more effective water management, including how different organisations can work closer together and pool financial resources.
The partners in the ‘urban water cycle management programme’ – including the city authorities for Hamburg and Hannover in Germany, Frysland in the Netherlands and Skovde in Sweden – would aim to produce a set of recommendations at the end of the day, explained Tony Poole, Bradford’s principal drainage engineer.
The three-year, €7.5M project – funded by the European Regional Development Fund – aims to optimise the performance of the urban water cycle while respecting the built environment.
