Boxers champion local crossing

A new, £3.2m footbridge providing improved community links in Newbridge town centre opened this week.

The Pont Calzaghe Bridge has been named after local sporting heroes Joe and Enzo Calzaghe, who opened the structure on Wednesday.

The bridge will improve pedestrian links between isolated elements of the community and town centre, providing accessibility to job opportunities, retail, leisure, cultural and educational services and facilities.

It forms part of the wider Newbridge safe routes in communities scheme, a £1.4m project funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, Caerphilly County BC and Newbridge Partnership.
