Borough sets waste target

Southwark Council has set a target of limiting waste growth in the borough to 2% – or less – by 2010.

The London borough believes the most effective way to achieve a reduction in waste growth is through education and community involvement schemes, so that individuals are aware of the part they can play in reducing their waste.

The council will also launch a composting scheme for schools, and continue to offer tailored assemblies and workshops which encourage pupils to think about the issues surrounding waste.
