Borough revels in taking a leak out of other’s example

There is nothing bog standard about a new loo which has been designed to go underground when not in use.
The hi-tech urinal, revealed by Colchester Borough Council this week, has been brought in because of late-night revellers in the Essex town urinating in shop doorways.
But, it has also won praise for its design, which means when it is not in use, the toilet can be hidden underground. Called the Urilift, the toilet uses a hydraulic system to ‘disappear’.
Christopher Arnold, portfolio holder for street services and waste, said: ‘From now on, there will be no excuse for this disgusting behaviour by late-night revellers.’
The design has already proved popular in Reading and Westminster.
