Board calls on executive to reverse bridge toll decision

The board running the Tay Road Bridge is demanding the Scottish Executive reverse its decision to retain tolls on the crossing.

The move comes as the Scottish Executive’s phase two report into the review of Scotland’s three bridge tolls revealed that much of the congestion problem at the bridge is down to the location of the toll plaza on the Dundee side. Congestion levels at the bridge were the reason cited for keeping the 80p toll by Scottish transport minister Tavish Scott (Surveyor, 9 March).

The decision to formally write to the executive comes after a meeting last Friday between board councillors. They claim that scrapping tolls on the Erskine but not the Tay bridge is unfair and unreasonable.
