Blackpool’s £11M deal with Tarmac is set in concrete

Tarmac has won an £11M contract to supply over 100,000m3 of concrete for the Blackpool and the Cleveleys coastal defence schemes.
The new sea wall at Blackpool has been designed to protect the town and improve public access to the sea, while providing a clean, modern look for the seafront. The Cleveleys defence scheme has been designed to protect the North Flyde coast.
Dr Lee Cunningham, an engineer with Blackpool Council, said, ‘We wanted to ensure the new sea defences at Blackpool were aesthetically in keeping with their surroundings as well a being functional.’ Tarmac’s clients for the schemes are Blackpool Council and Wyre Borough Council.
