Backing given for Tay crossing P&R

A cross-River Tay park-and-ride service for Dundee-bound commuters has been backed by the South East of Scotland Transport Partnership (SEStran).

A SEStran report recommends a park-and-ride site south of the Tay road bridge to provide up to 500 parking spaces, at a cost of £2.8M.

The report also recommends expanding the current parking capacity at Leuchars station from 158 to 258 spaces to meet increased demand. It currently operates at near capacity, and the recent doubling of train frequency from one to two per hour had led to a marked increase in traffic and a need for more parking.

SEStran chair, Cllr Russell Imrie, said: ‘It is important that we persuade travellers to use public transport as their mode of choice. Although there is little congestion on the Tay Road Bridge at present, the redevelopment of Dundee waterfront is likely to mean a significant increase in cross-Tay traffic.’
