Back street rights of way come out of the shadows

The Corporation of London and 12 inner-London boroughs could be required to record public rights of way under a proposal to be considered by the Government. Lord Bach, government spokesman, said the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs would ‘give serious consideration’ to a plea to protect inner-London’s RoW, which the Lords was told include ‘alleyways, passageways, and Pepysian stairs’. He made the pledge during a debate on the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Bill, last week. Lord Bach found the amendment ‘very attractive’, but said it would be rash to legislate without consulting the boroughs and other parties.
