Authority announces two new routes to Olympic glories

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) this week announced plans for two new cycling and walking paths in east London. The routes will stretch from Finsbury Park to Victoria Park, and Epping Forest, and the Wanstead Flats to Stratford.

According to the ODA, the proposals, part of a multimillion-pound investment to encourage people to walk and cycle to the events, will leave behind a ‘legacy of permanent improvements to key routes’.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: ‘This infrastructure will leave Londoners with the legacy of some fantastic new green ways of getting about the city.’

Some £11.5M will be invested in the scheme, and the ODA will work closely with local authorities, British Waterways and the Lea Valley Regional Park Authority to deliver the projects on the ground.

The investment will see six more routes significantly improved in the hope of enabling 385,000 spectators to cycle or walk to events.

More than £20bn will be spent on transportation links as part of a long-term plan, prior to the games, according to the London Assembly.
