Authorities left to decide timetable for decriminalization

The Department for Transport  has refused to set out a timetable for introducing decriminalised parking enforcement across the country.
The transport select committee had urged a national implementation plan for applying a single parking regime across the country, given ministerial statements that a national move to DPE ‘makes sense’ in a report on the issue.
‘It is not sensible that motorists should be subject to different processes for the same parking violations in different parts of the country,’ the backbenchers said in the summer. But the Government, in its response, merely stated that while it ‘shares the committee’s desire to see as many local authorities as possible taking on enforcement,’ it was ‘for the local authority to decide when to apply’.
