Britain’s ITS community must campaign to save the industry’s key source of technical requirements (TR) documentation, the Electro-technical Industries Traffic Control Advisory Committee, according to the Association for Road Traffic Safety and Management.
The call was made by its actions group on standards and specifications chair, Roger Stainforth, speaking at an ITS conference last week before a crucial 25 March meeting with the Highways Agency.

Most UK experience lay within the ITS community, which needed to become more active. This could mean local authorities investing in training staff for more complex tasks, he said.
Current ITS initiatives highlighted included Norfolk County Council trials with local hauliers, of dedicated freight industry journey delay alerts. Feedback had already led to map enhancements.
