Ashford finds a new home for disused road signs amid the rush

Disused road signs have been re-erected as an art installation on a roundabout on Ashford’s ring road to symbolise the transformation of the route.
On Sunday the ring road will be switched from one-way to two-way, and will be closed between 6:30am and 9:30am to allow the transformation to take place.
The switchover is part of a shared space scheme, which will see unnecessary street furniture and road markings removed from the ring road (Surveyor, 26 April 2007). The road signs used for the art installation were all taken from the ring road, thereby highlighting the needless clutter of the original design, a spokesman from Kent County Council said. He said the artwork – which is part of the separately-funded Lost O project – was not confusing motorists, contrary to media reports.
