Angry Cardiff residents launch paint protest

Cardiff residents have been taking the law into their own hands after an argument over parking escalated into three cars being covered in white paint.
Residents of the Welsh capital’s Butetown area have been complaining about commuters working at the Welsh Assembly building or visiting the Millennium Centre parking outside their homes.
Last week, Cardiff police were informed of incidents of white paint being thrown over three cars, and have previously had reports of car tyres being slashed and confrontations between commuters and residents.
A spokeswoman said: ‘This is a long-running issue. We recently set up a meeting with residents to address concerns over crime, but top of their agenda was people parking outside their homes.
‘The police are responsible for traffic wardens and parking enforcement but these people are not breaking the law and, indeed, it is the residents who now are.’ She added that around 1,000 penalty charge notices had been handed out in the area since January, but it would be down to
Cardiff council to make changes to the parking regulations. Vaughan Gething, Labour councillor for the Butetown ward, said that proposals for a controlled parking zone were being developed but there was currently no timescale in place. ‘We have just completed a consultation, and understandably, the majority of residents are in favour.’
