Amey buys Jarvis share of Herefordshire services

Jarvis has sold its 80% share in Herefordshire Jarvis Services to Amey as it looks to further offload its highways maintenance work.

The £3.55M deal sees Amey deliver services including highways maintenance across the county. Jarvis previously described its Herefordshire deal, which includes schools catering and building management, as a model for future contracts.

But a spokesman for the engineering group said the sale was part of the recovery plan, enabling it to focus on core activities such as rail.

Steven Norris, executive chairman of Jarvis, said: ‘Jarvis continues to divest itself of non-core activities and is fully focused on repositioning around its key competencies.’ Jarvis made a pre-tax loss of £21.7M in 2006/07, down from the £51M loss in 2005/06 and £247M in 2003/04. Herefordshire County Council owns the remaining 20% share in the business.
