Allied Vehicles acquires Glasgow City Council land

Glasgow City Council is to relocate and consolidate its fleet management operations into a single facility, after selling off land to a local business.

The site, covering 98,000sq ft, will be sold for £1.5M to local vehicle manufacturer Allied Vehicles. Mainly used by the council’s land and environmental services (LES) department as a transport depot and taxi inspection station, the land will be sold in a deal which will see a phased withdrawal from the site over five years.

On completion of the sale in April, the council will lease back areas from Allied Vehicles until its light fleet management operations have been relocated and consolidated into a single, council-wide facility for vehicle storage and maintenance.

Negotiations were entered into at a time when LES was reviewing its fleet service accommodation and vehicle repairs provision, following a new procurement arrangement that reduced the need for maintenance provision.
