Anti-airport expansion campaigners have cast doubt on BAA’s claims that it has a strong commitment to containing traffic increases around Stansted Airport.
BAA gave itself 10 out of 10 on surface access in its latest corporate responsibility report for Stansted, where 40% of passengers arrive by public transport – the highest at any of its airports. But Airport Watch said in ‘an attack on BAA’s honeyed words’ that even if this increased to 50% – ‘a commitment it hasn’t made but let’s be generous’ – car journeys would treble to 40M journeys annually with a second runway.
