Above-average sign to keep drivers in check

A new sign to alert motorists to the fact that SPECS-type cameras measuring their average speed are in operation has been unveiled.
Following trials on the M1 and M6, the new sign will, for the first time, inform drivers that an ‘average speed check’ is taking place.
The sign has been approved for use at all sites, permanent and temporary, following trials by the
Highways Agency  during roadworks on the M1 and M6.
SPECS cameras were due to be used for the first time in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire this week.
They will be policing a 40mph speed limit in place for the HA scheme to widen the M1 between junctions 10 and 6A.
