A glove on the hand...is worth a lot more than in the road

We all have those days, don’t we? When you feel it would have been better to just stay in bed. Unfortunately a highways worker in Edinburgh had one recently and it means a key route into the city, which had already been closed for three weeks, faces another upheaval. And all because of a glove.

It appears one unlucky contractor dropped the offending item as they were laying a new road surface meaning the asphalt failed to set properly.

The glove was seen sticking out of a pothole it had created on the road, leaving little doubt as to what caused the issue. It is not clear when the further repairs will be carried out or how long the road might be closed for.

City leaders told local papers that the contractor, Lafarge, would pay for the repair bill.

Alex Cole-Hamilton, a prospective Scottish Parliament candidate for the Liberal Democrats, told newspapers: ‘I’ve been calling for the city to be more ‘hands on’ with road repairs for some time, but this isn’t quite what I had in mind. Residents have had to endure weeks of traffic chaos as a result of the resurfacing of St John’s Road.'
