£900M regeneration plan unveiled in Hereford

Public transport, open spaces and road networks are set to improve in Hereford under a newly-unveiled £900M project to regenerate the city centre.

The 20-year project, run by ESG Herefordshire with the assistance of Herefordshire Council and Advantage West Midlands, will provide better, connected routes throughout the centre to help improve the area’s economy, along with the construction of a retail precinct and about 150 new homes.

The development area comprises 40ha of currently under-utilised land that lies north of the city centre, and would connect with the centre, which will also be redeveloped.

The creation of a new east-west link road through the development was crucial to the city centre expansion and was designed to cut congestion almost by half. It would also allow the inner ring road to be ‘tamed’ and turned into an attractive street.

ESG Herefordshire wants to improve accessibility by providing ‘safe, direct and attractive’ routes that encourage walking, cycling and use of public transport.
