£6m grant will see bridge tolls pegged

The Humber Bridge will benefit from £6m government funding over the next two years, transport minister Sadiq Khan announced this week.

The investment means the Humber Bridge Board will not need to increase tolls for at least the next 18 months.

The board will also be able to meet its legal obligation to repay the Humber Bridge debt on time – without the need to precept local authorities.

Mr Khan said: ‘The Humber Bridge is a vital transport link between North Lincolnshire and East Riding which has, and continues to, provide many opportunities and benefits.’

The funding is on top of the help the Government provided the board by writing-off and restructuring repayments. This has saved it more than £100m in total.
