£3.5M to assess Southwest assets

Local authorities in the Southwest have received an extra £3.5M to gather information for their transport asset-management plans.

Transport minister, Paul Clark, announced the money would be made available to help the councils manage their roads, bridges and other assets, and establish where the priorities lay.

Clark said: ‘I am very pleased at the extremely high level of interest from local authorities in this funding. It demonstrates a real understanding of the importance of asset management in delivering a good service to the public.’

The funding will be shared between the 16 councils in the region which submitted a bid, including Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and Gloucestershire.
