Durham County Council has submitted a bid to the Government’s community infrastructure fund for money to support schemes to improve its road network.
The council has requested £2.5M funding for a proposal to link new housing developments in Peterlee, Spennymoor and Coundon.
The work would include two new roundabouts, junction improvements, and improved access for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Councillor Neil Foster, cabinet member for economic regeneration at Durham County Council, said: ‘Good road links are vital for the development of new housing and successful regeneration.
‘This funding will enable us to provide the road networks needed for housing schemes in Peterlee, Spennymoor and Coundon, enabling people to access work and leisure opportunities.’
