£1.5M to cut Devon floods

Devon County Council is to spend an extra £1.5M on the county's highway drainage system to reduce isolated flooding.

The council said it had to deal with an increasing number of incidents of flooding in recent years where the inadequacy of highway drainage systems was thought to be the cause.

‘Upgrading highway drainage systems will alleviate the risk of flooding on the county's roads, which may affect properties or create safety hazards for motorists,’ said a spokesman.
